It’s shocking just how much negativity surrounds us all. People are for ever telling you why things won’t work. The media is constantly pounding horror into our minds – financial crisis, terror attacks, famine, and anything else that will make for an alluring headline. No matter where you look, there’s always rejection and negativity to be found.
Tell your friend you’re working on your billion dollar business and you won’t be taken seriously. Immediately people will “helpfully” bombard you with an endless number of reasons as to why it won’t work, and why you should just give up now. People are so busy making excuses as to why it can’t be done, that the ideas and plans that will actually be able to put you on the path to success will be overlooked. Wayne Dyer once said:
If you believe it will work out , you’ll see opportunities. If you believe it won’t you’ll see obstacles.
That sums it up perfectly. That’s the nature of the negative guy – negativity. He actively seeks out the reasons as to why an idea won’t work. Unfortunately, he will usually be successful in finding such reasons. That’s why the suggestions of your negative friends must be taken not with a pinch of salt, but with a cubic meter of salt.
Warren Buffet wisely said that:
It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behaviour is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction.
This is absolutely and completely true! Need proof? Take a look at your income, I can assure you that your income differentiates by no more than 20% compared to most your close friends. Do you think this is a coincidence? Most definitely not. We adapt our behaviour to mach our surroundings.
Did you ever consider why the unsuccessful are unsuccessful? One reason has just been stated above. There’s another reason though. Negativity. The unsuccessful would always rather use excuses. Excuses don’t cost anything. Excuses are free and easy to acquire and that’s why the poor unsuccessful failures can afford so many of them. What makes a successful entrepreneur successful is that he can’t afford excuses. A failure inspires a successful entrepreneur and failure gives the unsuccessful yet another excuse. Success is a mind set. You can fail for years and still be successful. It all depends on how you react to failure. Do you use it as a platform for generating more excuses? Or do you use it as a platform for learning?
In order to be successful you must be focused. I mean really really focused. As in that you don’t care for other people’s negative opinions. You need to stay on course no matter what. Nothing can deter you. Maintaining this mindset around the negative guy is incredibly difficult. So why make life needlessly difficult? You should surround yourself with people who are better than you. Are you dreaming of starting a multi million dollar business? Get close to someone who is motivated and focused on building a billon dollar business. Don’t join the easy crowd that will comfort you and tell you that failure is okay. Join the hard crowd that has high expectations. Expectations that are higher than your own. Cut out the negative guy as soon as possible. It’s crucial if you want to get ahed and achieve your entrepreneurial goals.
