Instagram Fixes Unusual Creed Music Recommendation Glitch

Instagram has acknowledged a problem with its music recommendation system after users repeatedly noticed the same rock song appearing when they prepared posts and Stories.

The track at the center of the issue is Creed’s Higher, a hit from the late 1990s that has unexpectedly become a frequent suggestion for people sharing photos and videos on the platform.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, confirmed that the song was being recommended to more users than intended. The company said its engineering team was investigating the issue and working toward a solution.

The explanation has offered relief to users who suspected something unusual was happening with their music recommendations.

Users Notice the Same Song Everywhere

Reports of the unusual recommendations spread across social media, with users describing how the song appeared alongside content that had little connection to the band.

Some people said Instagram suggested the track for pictures of pets, meals, family gatherings and outdoor scenery. Others noticed it while preparing ordinary updates that would not normally call for a dramatic rock anthem.

One user joked that the repeated suggestions made it seem as though the band was paying Meta to promote its music. Others wondered whether Instagram was deliberately trying to revive the song’s popularity.

The repeated appearance of Creed’s Higher became a running joke as more users shared similar experiences online.

How Instagram Usually Recommends Music

Instagram typically uses different signals to suggest music for posts and Stories. These can include a person’s previous activity, songs they have selected before, the content of an image or video, and broader trends on the platform.

Ideally, those signals help users find music that suits the material they want to share. However, the latest incident suggests that something went wrong with the way recommendations were being delivered.

Meta has not publicly identified the precise technical cause. Its statement confirms that Creed’s Higher was appearing more frequently than intended, but it does not explain which part of the recommendation system produced the error.

A Familiar Rock Song Returns to the Spotlight

Originally released in 1999 on Creed’s album Human Clay, “Higher” became one of the band’s best-known songs. Its dramatic vocals and arena-rock sound helped make it a defining track of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The song remains recognizable to many listeners, particularly those who grew up during that period. Its unexpected appearance on Instagram has introduced the track into conversations among users who may not normally listen to the band.

However, the unusual recommendations should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a genuine surge in demand for Creed’s Higher.

Not Every Music Recommendation Is a Glitch

Users have also questioned why Soulja Boy’s “Turn My Swag On” appears in Instagram’s music suggestions. Meta, however, said that recommendation reflects the song’s actual popularity on the platform rather than a technical problem.

That distinction shows why repeated recommendations do not always have the same explanation. Some tracks may be genuinely trending, while others can appear more frequently because of a system error.

For now, Instagram is investigating the issue and working to correct the unexpected promotion of Creed’s Higher. Until the company explains what happened, users may have to wait for their music suggestions to return to normal.
