Motivation can be defined:
the general desire or willingness of someone to do something.
That however does not fairly “define” motivation for those of us that are seeking more of it in order to accomplish something bigger than us. Millions of pieces of content have been published on the subject, from quotes and images to the different types of motivation and how to achieve your goals. That’s all great and we are big fans of it, however one aspect of motivation is always left out – attitude. With the right attitude you’ll be motivated.
Attitude is the Basis of Motivation
Attitude can be defined:
a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.
To simplify, it is a way of thought or feeling about someone/thing. Thoughts and feelings are controlled by ourselves, although effected by many exterior factors. Everything in life though, is effected by exterior factors that we have absolutely no control over. The only aspect of our day and of unwanted occurrences that we control is our very own attitude. That is the greatest trait of attitude itself, and what makes it so critical to success.
Take 1000 different circumstances, 1000 times, and each time – even if the circumstances are the same – you can have a different attitude towards the events taking places, and at the crossroads of negative and positive attitude, those who take the route with a positive outlook will come out on top – every single time.
For ourselves, as entrepreneurs, having the right attitude is one of the tools in our toolbox that will continue to guide us on the road to greatness (as we’ve defined it). Motivation is not what guides us, and it is more than likely not what guided Lincoln, Gandhi, or Kiyosaki. Attitude is our tool, and with that tool we create motivation.
Familiar with these motivational quotes?
The best way to predict your future is to create it – Abraham Lincoln
Your future is created by what you do today not tomorrow – Robert Kiyosaki
The future depends on what we do in the present – Mahatma Gandhi
They are all true and very motivational, and they have one thing in common – they’re true for anyone that has the right attitude. Attitude is 100% of every situation. What you tell yourself is what others will perceive. The way you feel will have a direct result on the outcome. Your thoughts will either make you feel better or worse. The way you think or feel with either help you create value in your life and for others or not.
Attitude beats everything. Life will be life and will continue to roll as it wishes. The only thing you can control is the way you attack it. What’s it going to be?
