Bring up any topic. Anything at all, and naturally there will be a vast array of opinions. Everyone will have their own take on the issue. Some will be positive, others negative. As always though, there are exceptions, and tax is one of them. As the saying goes, there are only two absolute certainties in life – Death and that people aren’t happy about paying taxes. Well, the saying isn’t completely true, there is a small isolated group of people that love paying taxes. You can find them in mental institutions.
What’s the problem?
Bizzvenue is in no way whatsoever advocating tax evasion. Tax avoidance though is another story altogether. We see no problem with using laws in a manner that is beneficial for you. With tax avoidance loop holes closing on a daily basis and the ever growing cooperation between nations, it’s becoming harder and harder to keep the governments hand out of your wallet. The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act or FATCA for short, may have been the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
The IRS overlooked one key element. “Where there’s a will there’s a way”. Entrepreneurs have a very big will and they usually have the discipline to find the way. So when tax laws became too tight, an intuitive bunch of people got together and founded their own country with their own laws. Most importantly, their own tax laws.
And the solution is Liberland
Meet Liberland, a new country located in a no mans land between Serbia and Croatia. The countries’s official site states that:
The aim of the founders of the new state is to create a society in which honest people can thrive, and a state that is not making their lives difficult with unnecessary restrictions and taxes.
It’s president, Czech, Vit Jedlicka invites all those who respect the principle of “live and let live”.
The founders of Liberland were naturally inspired by Monaco, and Liberland already has a flag, a constitution and laws. Liberland is currently handing out citizenships and inviting all, so long as they aren’t “communists, neo-Nazis or extremists”.
So what’s the main goal for Liberland? Becoming an international financial hub and most importantly, a much needed tax haven. During the declaration, 100 honorary citizenships were handed out to influential individuals from around the world. President Vit said that the rest of the world has become a “Tax hell” and that’s why his new country has already received well over 300,000 citizenship requests. So what are you waiting for? Sign up before it’s too late!
What’s the catch?
Unfortunately, there are one or two problems. Both Croatia and Serbia have deployed police units to prevent attempts to reach the area. A team of Serbian journalists attempted to visit the area to make a news report. They were denied access by Croatian border police without getting any clear explanation, and were also told that the flag had been taken down. However, a group of Czech reporters managed to successfully enter Liberland later the same week. So it seems to be a case of hit or miss. Although most disruptive ideas usually need to deal with some resistance at first. Only time will tell how Liberland develops. We are definitely going to keep our eye on this.
