After a tense two-week blackout that notably overlapped with a major election night, Disney and YouTube TV have reached a fresh multi-year agreement that restores Disney-owned channels and content to the streaming service. The new deal brings an end to the standoff that left millions of subscribers without access to key sports, news, and entertainment networks.
Under the renewed partnership, a wide range of Disney’s major properties — including ESPN, ABC, National Geographic, FX, and Disney-branded channels — are once again available on YouTube TV. Both companies confirmed that the content has already started rolling back onto the platform following the signing of the agreement on Friday evening.
A SIGNIFICANT WIN FOR VIEWERS
Disney executives Alan Bergman and Dana Walden, alongside ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro, emphasized that the updated carriage agreement aligns with Disney’s strategy to meet viewers where they are. WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE AGREEMENT
The deal ensures YouTube TV subscribers will once again have uninterrupted access to Disney’s full suite of traditional broadcast and cable programming. This includes every ESPN network — a critical component for sports fans — as well as local and national ABC channels, FX, FXX, Freeform, National Geographic, and more.
One of the standout components of the agreement is the inclusion of ESPN’s recently launched standalone sports streaming service. This newer platform, which offers additional digital sports content, will now be accessible directly through YouTube TV, matching other distribution partnerships Disney has secured throughout the year. In addition to the core channels, users will also have the option to subscribe to a bundle featuring Disney+ and Hulu. The ability to add the bundle within YouTube TV could help streamline the experience for viewers who are juggling multiple platforms to keep up with shows, movies, and live sports.
